The field of regenerative medicine has seen its share of advancements in the last decade.

Our office currently offers procedures that can help your body to heal itself, reduce pain, and promote better motion. PRP is one of such procedures. PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma injections use your own plasma that is harvested through a gentle blood draw. The platelet rich plasma is then separated from the red blood cells. The PRP is then reintroduced to the body in the locations of damage or pain. This introduces a cascade of growth factors and proteins to the site which promotes regeneration. This procedure is often performed 2-3 times for successful management. The right patient for PRP is a patient that is looking to avoid surgery, improve inflamed tissues such as tendons, cartilage and fascia, or simply wanting to regenerate more healthy connective tissue. Healing time may take several months for repairing tissue to grow strong.

Viscosupplementation is another procedure offered in our office. This is a procedure that involves injecting hyaluronic acid(HA) into a joint to help with pain, inflammation, and movement. Commonly used substances available through prescription for injection include Gelsyn and Supartz. Knee osteoarthritis can be managed with this treatment in anywhere from 1-3 treatments. The HA mixes with synovial fluid inside a joint causing it to be more hydrophilic, meaning it attracts more water which makes your joint fluid more substantial, so less friction occurs. The benefits of these procedures can last from 6-18 months. Most major medical insurances cover this procedure including Medicare.
